Wallington High School for Girls: 16 to 19 Study Programme

At Wallington High School for Girls, our 16 to 19 study programme is designed to ensure students leave our Sixth Form with the qualifications, skills, and confidence needed for future success, whether in higher education, employment, or other pathways.

Academic Curriculum

Our Sixth Form offers a broad range of A-Level subjects, enabling students to pursue their academic passions and career aspirations.

Students generally select three A-Level subjects in Year 12, though some may opt to study four, subject to meeting additional criteria. Those taking Further Mathematics are required to take four subjects across both years.

Wallington operates on a ten-day timetable cycle, providing Year 12 students with ten one-hour lessons per subject over a fortnightly period, while Year 13 students receive nine one-hour lessons per subject.

English and Maths

At Wallington High School for Girls, all students entering the Sixth Form must have achieved at least a grade 4 in both GCSE English and Mathematics. As a result, there is no requirement for students to continue studying these subjects during their Sixth Form studies.

Enrichment and Personal Development

Wallington High School for Girls offers a rich and varied enrichment programme to complement students’ academic studies and support their personal growth:

  • Work Experience:
We facilitate placements to provide students with practical insights into various professions and industries, helping them make informed decisions about their futures.
  • Clubs and Societies:
Students are encouraged to participate in a wide range of extracurricular activities to develop new skills, explore interests, and build lasting friendships.
  • Community Service:
Opportunities for volunteering enable students to engage with the wider community and foster a strong sense of social responsibility.
  • Year 12 Enrichment:
    • Physical education and PSHCE to support physical, social, and emotional wellbeing.
    • Workshops and talks on performance psychology, study skills, and maintaining a positive mindset.
    • Special enrichment days, such as planning a ‘Day Out in London’ and workshops on Drugs Awareness, Sexual Health, and Safe Driving.
    • Weekly electives, including ethics, dissection, criminology, European studies, public speaking, and Sports Leaders.
  • Year 13 Enrichment:
    • Activities focused on preparing for higher education and independent living, including Interview Practice Day and workshops on budgeting, finance, CPR, and cooking.
    • A fortnightly lecture programme featuring guest speakers on a variety of topics.
  • Extended Project Qualification (EPQ):
Students in Year 12 have the option to undertake the EPQ, where they independently research and present on a topic of their choice. This provides an excellent opportunity to develop skills such as research, analysis, and presentation, while producing a structured extended project akin to an undergraduate dissertation.

Pastoral Care and Support

Sixth Form students benefit from a dedicated tutor and PSHCE programme, ensuring their academic and personal wellbeing is prioritised throughout their time at Wallington.

Preparing for the Future

Our 16 to 19 study programme fosters academic excellence, personal development, and a commitment to social responsibility. At Wallington, we aim to prepare every student to thrive in their chosen pathway and contribute meaningfully to the world beyond school. Tutor time, PSHCE lessons and off-timetable days lead students through making education choices about their next steps and prepare them for life beyond school.
