Careers and Work Related Learning
Welcome to the Careers Department
We are fully committed to supporting your child’s future choices. Our aim is to ensure that our students have all the information and skills to be able to make ambitious and informed choices about their future. The WHSG programme is designed to ensure all students experience an insight into the world of work and the range of further education and careers choices available to them.
All of our students have access to independent careers guidance from qualified careers advisors. This takes the form of 1 to 1 and small group sessions (students should see their form tutors if they wish to access this) as well as assemblies and stand-alone events and enrichment activities.
In addition, each student has access to Unifrog. This is a bespoke further education and careers software where students can research careers and courses, complete self-evaluation tools and record the current careers experiences amongst a whole host of other excellent provision. Time is set aside in the curriculum for them to access this but they can also use this platform remotely in their own time.
We host a number of events during the school year within the school and across the trust. These include MMI practice interviews, the year 13 interview day and talks and encounters throughout the school year.
Students also get at least three opportunities to experience the work place. In year 9, students are encouraged to attend the work place for a day with family of friends. In year 11 and 12 students have the opportunity to complete a week of work experience to help inform their future choices and build up the skills necessary for their next steps.
Careers education is embedded throughout our curriculum and is particularly delivered as part of our PSHCE offer. For a more detailed look at our careers curriculum please click here.
Our careers offer is evaluated on a termly basis against the Gatsby Benchmarks using the Compass Plus evaluation tool. Any gaps lead to changes in our careers curriculum which are changed the website on an annual basis, in September.
We are always looking for help with our careers programme and if you or someone you know is able to offer support then please contact our Careers Coordinator, Lisa Parkinson.
